Segway Tours with Anthony Gardella

A BLOG from Anthony Gardella
Segway Supervisor and Tour Guide at Cranmore Mountain Resort

Having been a seasonal employee at Cranmore Mountain in North Conway, New Hampshire for several years now as a snowboard coach, I thought, what job could possibly be better than this? Enter one of Cranmore's newest summer attractions, and the Mount Washington Valleys first- Mountain Segway tours.

When I was asked to lead a team and train guests to ride Segways and show them around, I was into it from the beginning. Now I can spend the winter and summer seasons helping people enjoy the outdoors. There’s nothing like meeting people who have traveled long distances just to visit Cranmore. To see their faces light up with excitement after cruising on a Segway is a very fulfilling experience for me.

I also appreciate the feedback we have received from guests who filled out our survey after their tour. Since this is our first summer offering Segway tours, we have been able to keep our ear on the street and develop a well rounded fun time for all. We are planning a foliage tour for this year, and for next summer we are putting our creative minds to work at developing a longer tour.

So, if you’ve never been on a Segway before, stop by Cranmore Mountain Resort in the heart of the Mount Washington Valley and give it a try.

*If you have never tried a Segway before, and are interested in giving it a shot, grab an E-coupon for this Sunday, August 26th, to test the waters in a 10 minute Segway Demo for only $9. Get your E-coupon here!
**Since summer is starting to wrap up, Mountain Segway Tours, as well as all other summer attractions at Cranmore, will operate weekends only starting September 1st through October 8th.

A Ride to the Top

If you know anything about Cranmore in the summer, you know that we have tons of fun attractions to keep you and your family busy. While bouncing into the clouds, soaring to new heights and swinging in the trees are fun activities to do, who doesn’t like a nice, relaxing scenic view from the top of our peaceful summit? The views you’ll get from the summit of Cranmore are some of the best you can get without having to hike a mountain.
Brown bag a lunch with your family and hop on a chair of the Skimobile Express Lift. When you arrive at the summit, take a minute to enjoy the 360 degree view of the Mount Washington Valley and its surroundings. Head over to the Meister Hut, where you can have a picnic on the rocks, or even grab a table on the deck for a more formal set-up.

The Meister Hut is open to the public during operating hours, and is where you will be able to find restroom facilities (just in case you forgot to go before you made the ascent). Yes, it gets better than just bathrooms- you will also find a few cushioned love seats if you need to take a rest from the sunlight. What is also pretty cool about the Meister Hut in the summer is the New England Ski Museum exhibit. In addition to the many historical framed photos and old skis that occupy the interior walls year round, the NESM has put together an outstanding timeline of New England Ski history. Whether you are a native New England skier, a history buff, or even a visitor to the Valley that has never put on a pair of skis in your life, this display will interest everyone.
After your time at the top concludes, head back over to the Skimobile Express and begin your descent to the base. It might be weird at first, but downloading a chairlift is just as easy as going up, plus the views on the way down are far more spectacular, as you will be able to enjoy them without having to use owl-like contortions to get a good look at what was behind you on the way up.
So remember, the next time you are at Cranmore zipping down the Mountain Coaster or balancing across narrow wooden bridges in the Aerial Adventure Park, don’t forget to take it to the top!
