Cranmore Mountain to Host Fundraiser for Olympic-bound Ski Racer Leanne Smith

Cranmore Mountain is hosting a fundraiser on Fri., Feb. 5th for North Conway ski racer Leanne Smith who is heading to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Leanne, who grew up skiing at Cranmore and trained on the Cranmore Race Team, was named to the US Olympic Alpine Ski Team earlier this week. She is expected to compete in the Combined and SG ski races next month.
The fundraising event, put on by Cranmore Mountain and the Eastern Slope Ski Club, takes place Fri. Feb. 5th from 5-9pm at Cranmore’s Eating House. The event will feature a silent auction, Chinese auction, appetizers from Valley Original restaurants, cash bar, and live music from Hey Yeti plus singer/guitarist Kathy Bennett.

A $5 donation is requested at the door with 100% of those proceeds going to Leanne and her family. Additionally, Cranmore will donate 25% of all ticket sales from their tubing park that evening from 4-7pm.
Leanne Smith followed her older sister into skiing, latched onto racing and has kept shaving microseconds from her time. A NorAm champion and topflight junior skier, she inked a spot on the World Cup elite after finishing 23rd in her career first World Cup start, which also happened to be the first downhill of the 2008 season.

Her career accomplishments include:

• 2008: 23rd in career first World Cup start

• Three more WC top 30 finishes in 2008

• 2nd in super G at '08 U.S. Championships

• 2007 NorAm overall and super G champion (1 win)

• Ski Racing Alpine Junior of the Year for 2007

• Former National Development Systems athlete

Additional donations may be made the day of the event. Businesses wishing to donate auction items for the event may contact Cranmore Mountain by Thursday, Feb. 4th at 603-356-5544 ext. 352. All donations are tax deductible and checks should be made payable to the Eastern Slope Ski Club, a registered 501C(3) non-profit organization.

Rebounding Snow Conditions at Cranmore

Good news folks - we survived last week's weather event and conditions are still sweet out there. I went out with photographer Bill Lee ( yesterday and discovered we still have great snow coverage all around the mountain. Sometimes a little precipitation can actually soften up snow surfaces and make for "hero snow." Plus our snowmakers are at it again, pumping out snow all over the mountain. But don't take my word for it - check out these photos from yesterday below, or view our video snow report to see for yourself.

Cranaplooza - It's a Festival at Cranmore

We are now enjoying lovely mid-winter snow conditions here at Cranmore in North Conway. With 100% of our terrain open, you will find no better value in the region or a more enjoyable skiing experience for your family than right here.

Cranaplooza has been a lot of fun so far this year. Each week is a different themed event for the Saturday night festivities. Last week, cowboys were all the rage and kids received free goodies including cowboy mustaches, hats and sheriff badges. This Saturday Jan. 23, 2010 is a Farmyard Fun theme, so who knows what we'll be giving away this week. I can tell you our friends at Cabot Chese will be giving out free samples, and does it get any better than free cheese?

Bobo the Clown will also be entertaining the kids with his act with some of the best balloon animals ever. You should see this clown go - kids are crazy for Bobo.

This week we are also rolling out a new activity at Cranaplooza, the apres movie in the Eating House. Starting at 4:30pm, we'll play a favorite kids film on the wide-screen TV. The movie changes every week and will be part of that week's Cranaplooza theme. This week, we'll be playing the animated film, Barn Yard . The movie is free for all and we'll be rolling out the little red popcorn machine as well. It's a great way to let the kids wind down after skiing while the parents can enjoy an adult beverage and the apres scene as well.

This weekend on Jan. 23 we are also hosting our famous Biodiesel Days. Drive a hybrid or alternative fuel vehicle to Cranmore and the driver receives on free lift ticket and gets to park in a snazzy VIP lot along with all the other eco-friendly guests.

Do you love Cranmore? Let the world know. Rate us on Trip Advisor . Your ratings help us out tremendously as so many people rely on word of mouth reviews on this site and others. While you're at it, join us on Facebook and Twitter as we often post special deals you'll only find there.

And if you have visited our terrain parks, we'd love to get your opinion - fill out our survey. We think we have the best parks in the region - let us know if you agree!

Happy New Year! Say goodbye to 2009 bring on 2010! Hopefully 2010 will bring tons of POW so we can all spend some time in the white room as well as slaying the parks on a regular basis. Thanks to all of you that made it out to the Monster Mash opening jam! Unfortunately it was a bit rainy but we made the best of it. Everybody put on their trashbag ponchos and killed it alongside the park crew! Good times! This week we will be building the "mini-shred" Otherside Park on the South Slope and next week we will be rebuilding the Darkside for the holiday weekend. Keep an eye on our website for updates and info. We'll be posting info and pics as we build, so check us out on the website, Facebook or Myspace, be our friend and drop us a line!

Hannes High Top Fade

Well, we didn't get the blockbuster snow storm we were hoping for, but we have received several inches of snow each day for the last several days. Conditions are sweet here at Cranmore in North Conway, NH.

Special thanks to photographer Bill Lee who took this snazzy shot of our Hannes Schneider statue after we received a few inches the evening of January 1st. We're sure this frosty high top fade is Hannes' favorite hat.
