Everyone who visits Cranmore is familiar with the bronze statue of Hannes Schneider who is poised forever in mid-schuss in front of the Ticket Haus at the North Conway ski area.
And an even more familiar question is, "what happened to his poles?"
Apparently in the 20 years since his installation, a generation of children have merrily pulled and swung the poles right off the statue.
Now Cranmore is working with the statue's sculptor, Edward Materson, to help Hannes get his poles back.
Materson came to Cranmore today and worked with Cranmore's Rick Oakes to reinstall the poles. Later, the resort will put a fence around the sculpture, in the hopes that his poles will remain with him for a while.
